The two brands MAFI and TREPEL received an international award for sustainable management for their heavy-duty tractor units and airport loaders. Both now hold the EcoVadis bronze medal for one year. After an extensive audit of environmental behavior, compliance with labor and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement, the French exhibitor EcoVadis confirms that MAFI and TREPEL are among the 35 percent best companies audited by EcoVadis in 2024. On this occasion, MAFI TREPEL CEO Roland Hartwig emphasized today, March 6th, at the company’s headquarters in Tauberbischofsheim: “The investments made in sustainable corporate management in recent years have paid off. We now have a confirmation that was carried out according to strict and measurable criteria.”
EcoVadis is an internationally active French company that has audited almost three million companies and awarded a medal to more than 150,000 companies in 185 countries. “The medal is a recognized sign that the companies have dealt extensively with sustainability and can also prove this in figures,” explained Hartwig. According to Hartwig, only a few providers in the company’s two sectors of maritime and airport logistics have undergone this audit to date. “Our customers can be sure that we are a sustainable partner that is well above the industry average.” In this context, Hartwig referred to the German Renewables Award 2024, which TREPEL recently received for massive fuel savings in aircraft ground transportation.
For the CEO, however, the EcoVadis ranking also has an internal impact. “We now know much better and based on figures where our strengths lie and where we want to improve.” EcoVadis therefore remains a strategic project in the company’s current growth phase, which he has initiated since taking office at the end of 2023. The aim is to improve the ranking of both brands by one level each year. The silver medal is on the agenda for 2026, followed quickly by gold and platinum. “With platinum, we would prove that we belong to the top one percent of companies tested in terms of sustainability. As far as I know, no one in our industry has ever achieved this before!” Although the project would require additional resources, the CEO emphasized that it would pay off thanks to the greater appeal of the brands.
In the detailed results, MAFI scored 70 out of 100 points in the environment category, well above its own overall result (60 out of 100 points). 100 out of a possible 100 points were already awarded for environmental measures, i.e. for the concrete implementation of environmentally friendly behavior. Numerous measures go far beyond the legally prescribed values. The company also scored points for relevant training courses for employees. According to Hartwig, sustainable procurement still offers great potential. Although work is already underway, this level of action could become even more efficient and sustainable through the introduction of corresponding guidelines.
MAFI received 60 out of 100 points for labor and human rights. The auditors, who have data from 2.8 million companies, confirmed that the workplaces at MAFI TREPEL are “safe and humane”, i.e. socially sustainable. As a result of the audit process, the company plans to develop a guideline on “diversity, equality and inclusion”, among other things.
TREPEL had already achieved an EcoVadis ranking and has now renewed the evaluation after a break. The overall score of 67 out of 100 is at the top end of the bronze category. Here too, the two areas of environment and labor law were rated well above average.
For CEO Hartwig, the evaluation of the two brands is the basis for consistently implementing improvements throughout the company. This applies, for example, to comprehensive water management or a cross-brand focus on environmentally friendly procurement. MAFI TREPEL also wants to address the auditors’ finding that there is often a lack of regular, explicit reports for the areas examined: “It is clear that only reports make our performance quickly and easily accessible to external parties. We will therefore improve here.”
